This sends us your choices and how to reach you. We reply within a day with your final price and the next sailing date.
Urban 1 is on its first sailing, so there are no customer photographs yet. Every piece on it is photographed finished, before it is crated, and those photographs go on this page.
Your piece is made for you, after you order it.
Pieces leave Ahmedabad by sea on a sailing we book for you. We send photographs at four points: when the order is confirmed, when the seat is cut, when it is finished, and when it is on the ship. It arrives in a crate and our Adelaide crew bolts it together where it will live, so there is nothing for you to assemble. Adelaide metro is included in the price. Anywhere else, we quote the last leg with your final price.
Teak and steel, made to order.
The seat frame, arms and feet are solid saag, polished in the finish you choose: a water-based polyurethane, low in VOCs, that wipes clean and has no smell by the time it lands. The posts, pivot heads and hanger rods are zinc-primed steel under a black powder-coat, or brushed 316 stainless if you take the upgrade. Every bolt is stainless on either frame, so nothing streaks. The two cushions come with the piece, one for the seat and one for the back: solution-dyed acrylic covers, zipped and removable, over quick-dry foam, in the colour you choose. Spare covers in any of the ten colours can be ordered later.
A metre and a half wide, about shoulder height.
It needs about 152 cm of floor and stands 91 cm deep. The seat swings, so leave a little room front and back. Freestanding: no beam, no ceiling fixing.
Shown in a room for scale.

A damp cloth, and not much else.
- Timber
- Wipe with a damp cloth, then dry. Skip oils and sprays; the polyurethane is the protection. Out of all-day sun it keeps its colour. In it, teak silvers over a couple of years, which some people want.
- Steel
- Hose off salt now and then if you live near the sea. A chip in the powder-coat gets a dab of black enamel before it can rust.
- Cushions
- The covers unzip. Cold wash, line dry, and back on while slightly damp so they sit tight. The foam dries on its own after rain. Bring them in for a long wet spell.
- The pivot
- It needs no oil. If it ever squeaks, a drop of dry lubricant on the pin.
Asked about this piece
Can two adults sit on it?
- Yes. It seats two comfortably and is rated to 250 kg. Three at a squeeze.
Can it live outside?
- Under cover, yes: a verandah, a patio, an alfresco. The timber is polished, the steel is powder-coated or stainless, and the cushions are outdoor grade. Left in open weather all year, the timber will silver and the cushions will want bringing in for the wet months.
Will it rust?
- The black frame is zinc-primed under its powder-coat, and every bolt is stainless. Near the sea, take the 316 stainless frame. That grade is made for salt air.
Does it need a beam or a ceiling fixing?
- No. It stands on its own two posts and triangular feet. Put it where you like and move it when you like.
How much room does it need?
- About 152 cm of wall and 91 cm of floor depth, plus a little in front and behind for the swing.
Do I have to assemble it?
- No. It arrives in a crate and our Adelaide crew bolts it together where it will live.
Why does it take months?
- It is made after you order it, then travels by sea. Air freight on a piece this size would cost more than it is worth. You see photographs at four points along the way, and the sailing dates are on this page.
Can I change the cushions later?
- Yes. The covers unzip, and spare covers in any of the ten colours can be ordered.
What if it arrives damaged?
- It is insured door to door. Photograph it within 48 hours and we replace the part, or the piece.
Is the picture a photograph?
- It is a rendering of the piece in the finish you chose. We photograph your actual piece before it is crated, and you see those photographs before it ships.
Made in Gujarat, delivered in Adelaide.
The seat is cut and polished in a furniture workshop in Gujarat that makes teak seating for export, and the steel is fabricated and coated nearby. We design the piece, inspect it, photograph it before it is crated, and stand behind it here.
